OEC is in the Vanguard of new thinking within the Architectural Community. This new train of thought is referred to as BIM or “Build in Model”, which stipulates the use of CAD models for precise 3 dimensional modeling purposes. We have taken this Architectural Axiom to the next level BFM or “Build From Model”, wherein we promote through direct use of the precise BIM models, to facilitate the actual fabrication of these models using a technological leap from Computer Aided Design (BIM) into Computer Aided Machining (CAM). CAM allows us to do two things, which have previously not been available to the design/fabrication process:

1. We can tool and the virtually machine or fabricate any and all parts of an assembly, prior to the physical act. In this way we can simulate the actual process and mitigate any problems before approaching labor and materials.
2. In the virtual environment we tool things to achieve, the best material use, and the highest economy of time spent.
3. CAM is also a robotic code generator. This means that our robots are programmed in their motion, tool usage, and time, from the virtual environment. Thus we have all but eliminated the problems of manual data input on the shop floor.

Using a BFM strategy in conjunction with design consultations from a practitioner thereof yields stunning results in terms of preservation of the design intent within tolerance parameters, which are simply not achievable through any other means. This means that the design and budget can be established and preserved throughout the process. Most of the examples shown in the accompanying pages are representative of this practice.

This operational model allows design execution chain to function in a true synergistic fashion, in that all of the members are allowed to bring their true strengths to the table, within the forum of a shared knowledge base. This now presents the design process as vertically integrated from Design – Engineering – Budgeting – Fabrication – Installation. The net effect of this strategy is that it builds a Master Builder Team. It provides for the execution of a design to be exactly as envisioned by the designer, and it allows for a true quantification of the effort required (Time and Budget) within the design process. At the end of the day, what had been highly speculative for the designer is distilled into a scientific process with most of the variables accounted for. So the designer can speak with authority to the owner and therein decide on the merits of any particular piece, or sub set of parts within a project.

At OEC we not only accept CAD model from designers for fabrication, we are able to translate those CAD designs into reality, thus giving the designer far greater control of the end product. Please contact us for a demonstration of how the process can help you with your next project.

OEC prides itself in quickly learning the problems of its clients, and finding the solutions that either meet or exceed the mission parameters. Give us a problem, we'll make you the solution.
